Abstract from Bishop Barron: Taking my cue from the great bishop theologians of the ancient Church—Chrysostom, Gregory of Nyssa, Ambrose, and Augustine—I will interpret the Old Testament’s understanding of God in a theological and spiritual manner. Major themes include the incomparability of God, God’s non-competitive transcendence to the world, the necessarily tensive nature of divine naming, God’s co-operative way of relating to human agency, and God in relation to suffering. Throughout, I employ a typological and Christological hermeneutic in my reading of the Old Testament.
