Alice M. Ramos

Biography

Alice Ramos is  Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at St. John's University, Queens, NY. Currently she teaches in the MA Program of Catholic Philosophical Studies as Adjunct Professor at St. Joseph's Seminary, Yonkers, NY.

At St. John’s, Ramos taught a variety of courses such as philosophical anthropology, metaphysics, medieval philosophy, and modern philosophy, but concentrated in ethics and aesthetics. Among her publications are Dynamic Transcendentals: Truth, Goodness, and Beauty from a Thomistic Perspective (CUA Press, 2012) and Beauty and the Good: Recovering the Classical Tradition from Plato to Duns Scotus (volume 62 of Studies in Philosophy and the History of Philosophy, CUA Press, 2020). She has also published articles on topics in metaphysics, ethics, aesthetics, and Christian anthropology. She is the recipient of fellowships and grants both in the United States and in Europe. She is a past president of the American Maritain Association (2002-2004). She has served on the executive council of the American Catholic Philosophical Association and on the executive committee of the Metaphysical Society of America.
