Lingchang Gui

Dr. Lingchang Gui is an Assistant Professor at the School of Philosophy, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. His research focuses primarily on medieval philosophy, particularly the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas, including his ontology, epistemology, ethics, and theology. Currently, he is leading a national project titled “A Study on the Historical Value and Contemporary Relevance of Aquinas’s Thought on Action.”

Project Abstract: In this study, I will focus on the causal dimension of Aquinas’s thought on action. On one hand, from the perspective of the contemporary philosophy of action, I will explore the compatibility between Aquinas’s views on action and various contemporary theories of action. On the other hand, from the perspective of the human-divine relationship within the framework of philosophical theology, I will examine the connection between the causal characteristics of human action in Aquinas’s thought and the causal nature of divine action, while also considering its ethical implications.
